The Water Rides Are Open!

This weekend I made the trip to Sesame Place to enjoy Mother's Day with my girls. It's hard not to smile and laugh all day long when Oscar the Grouch and the Count are part of the entertainment. 

Did I mention the rides! There are rides for little kids and big ones, too.

My girls love the roller coaster, Vapor Trail, and Big Bird's Balloon Race. They are just high and fast enough to give a thrill, but the smaller park goers have no problem with the ...

It's been a long winter for some of us in northern climates, but it looks like it's finally spring and time to get ready for outdoor activities.

The Fresh Air Fund Needs Host Families!


The Fresh Air Fund is looking for host families in the Fredericksburg area! The Fresh Air Fund is a non-profit agency that has sent over 1.7 million New York City children to 13 states and Canada since 1877. Because of our Fresh Air families in the Fredericksburg area, New York City children have had the chance to run barefoot in the grass and gaze at star-filled skies.

Volunteer host families open their homes to children who might not otherwise be able to enjoy a summer away from the city ...

Celebrate youth and the great outdoors with the staff at Caledon. We will be holding a wide range of programs for families as we participate in this national event. Programs for the day include:

1:00 p.m. Fossil Find- discover the incredible and complex geological history and find out if there are sharks & dinosaurs in the Potomac River.

Saturday, May 18 - Gracie's Gowns Sewing Day

Come one and come all for a day of gown fun! We will have fabric to be cut, gowns to be sewn, snapped and once that is all done, pictured and packaging! There is something for everyone to do ~ even the kiddos can come and make cards or pictures to be included with the gowns! Most sewing is a beginning level, experience with making clothing is always a plus. Materials can also be dropped off at the event for those who want to help with Gracie's Gowns, but already have plans for the day and can't help with the hands-on excitement.

Airshow. Come early to meet the pilots and view the planes. See a bi-plane wing walker, aerial acrobatics and parachuters during the show. There is ample seating close to the field but feel free to bring your own lawn chairs if you'd like to.

Relive old memories/create new ones. What was life like at Ferry Farm during World War II? For the Linton family it was life on a Stafford County farm plus living on the same land as our first president, a tourist destination since the 18th century. As a matter of fact, the Linton children gave tours to visitors who came to honor the first president during this time of national struggle.

Saturday, May 25 - Alpaca Shearing Day at Maranatha

Alpacas need haircuts too! Come out to the farm and watch the alpacas get their yearly haircut. This is the crop we have worked hard all year long to produce. Learn why alpaca fiber was considered the "fiber of the gods" and why it's still a luxury fiber today. Children of all ages can learn how to make bird nest balls and felted soaps at the Kids Create Corner. Purchase farm fresh eggs. Spend a day in the country of Stafford County, bring a bag lunch and enjoy relaxing at our picnic table.  One alpaca will be sheared at the top of each hour. Don't forget to grab a friend and bring your camera...see you down on the farm!

Sunday, May 26 - Flying Circus Airshow

Airshow. Come early to meet the pilots and view the planes. See a bi-plane wing walker, aerial acrobatics and parachuters during the show. There is ample seating close to the field but feel free to bring your own lawn chairs if you'd like to.
Where: The Flying Circus Aerodrome is located 14 miles SE of Warrenton, VA and 22 miles NW of Fredericksburg, VA. They are just off Route 17, at 5114 Ritchie Road (Route 644) in Bealeton, VA.  Just look for the Flying Circus Sign

The annual event features big band, swing, and contemporary jazz music. Enjoy the sounds of Jazz at beautiful Waterfront Park. The United States Navy Band Commodores will open the concert performing the very best of big band sound, followed by a variety of jazz performers: Al Williams, contemporary; Daniel Ori, modern with World influences; Emy Tseng, Contemporary & Brazilian and concluding with the Bob Gibson Big Band.
